چکیده

Neurons in cerebral cortex are characterized by a stochastic subthreshold membrane potential (Vm) activity, which originates from the ongoing and irregular activity of neurons in the cortical network. Here, we propose a way of characterizing this network activity by using the notion of shot noise applied to pulse-based kinetic models of synaptic conductances. We link the statistical characterization of synaptic conductances in terms of their mean and variance to the activity in the network, in particular the average firing rate of presynaptic neurons and their temporal correlation, thus providing a possible method for characterizing cortical network activity from intracellularly recorded Vm activity. r 2004 Elsevier B.V. Characterization of biophysical properties of single chloride channel in rat brain mitochondrial inner membrane by channel incorporation into bilayer lipid membrane

Introduction: Recent studies have shown the presence of Cl- channels in heart and liver mitochondrial membranes. In this work, we have characterized the functional profile of a Cl- channel from rat brain mitochondria. Methods: After removing and homogenizing the rat brain, the supernatant was separately centrifuged in MSEdigitonin, H2O and Na2CO3 and mitochondrial inner membrane vesicles wer...

multiple access (OCDMA), modified quadratic congruence (MQC). Abstract— In this article we aim to investigate the theoretical and simulation analysis of the next-generation optical access network based on optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) technique. Hence, incorporating this technique with passive optical network (PON) will enable the system to support higher bandwidth compared to t...

Interference-Aware and Cluster Based Multicast Routing in Multi-Radio Multi-Channel Wireless Mesh Networks

Multicast routing is one of the most important services in Multi Radio Multi Channel (MRMC) Wireless Mesh Networks (WMN). Multicast routing performance in WMNs could be improved by choosing the best routes and the routes that have minimum interference to reach multicast receivers. In this paper we want to address the multicast routing problem for a given channel assignment in WMNs. The channels...

Critical phenomena and noise-induced phase transitions in neuronal networks.

We study numerically and analytically first- and second-order phase transitions in neuronal networks stimulated by shot noise (a flow of random spikes bombarding neurons). Using an exactly solvable cortical model of neuronal networks on classical random networks, we find critical phenomena accompanying the transitions and their dependence on the shot noise intensity. We show that a pattern of s...

Noise-induced phase transitions in neuronal networks

Using an exactly solvable cortical model of a neuronal network, we show that, by increasing the intensity of shot noise (flow of random spikes bombarding neurons), the network undergoes first-and second-order non-equilibrium phase transitions. We study the nature of the transitions, bursts and avalanches of neuronal activity. Saddle-node and supercritical Hopf bifurcations are the mechanisms of...
